Santa's Helper

What a change in the weather and how lovely to be able to sit out in the garden. The washing machine has been working overtime as anything that can be washed has been washed and hung out on the line to dry - I still can't understand why it gives me so much pleasure to dry the washing outside! The downside to this lovely weather is the weeding we've got to do at my Dad's house as I'm certain prospective buyers don't want to be greeted by foot-high dandelions along the driveway, no matter how bright and cheerful they look!

Anyway enough of my waffling as I'm here to show off some new goodies I treated myself to in the shape of MFT 'Santa's Elves' stamp set and matching dies. I used my usual Promarkers to colour the tree and one of the elves (there are 3 in the set) with Stickles on the fur and a glitter sakura pen for the star and hat bell. The scalloped circle was die-cut from glitter paper that had been stuck to some card and the plain circle was die-cut and then run through with a dotty embossing folder to give it a bit of texture. I used one of the sentiments from the stamp set and after I put it all together I added some pearls and gemstones.

and here's one that shows the glitter a bit better

I'm heading over to the following challenges

MFT Sketch challenge
this sketch

ABC Christmas challenge 'H for hats and/or I for ice'

As You Like It challenge 'favourite colouring medium and why' (my 2nd entry - my trusty Promarkers always work well for me)

Allsorts challenge 'use pearls'

and as I used snippets of card and glitter paper I shall head over to Pixie's Snippets Playground challenge to see Miss Di, Parsnip and the other Playmates

That's all from me today - we're off to do some shopping and as I'm still limping along with my very sick laptop we'll also head into PC World and hopefully get me a new one. Thanks for popping by today and I will be round to catch up with you all just as soon as I can.... even if I have to liberate Hubby's tablet to do the job.

Spring... At Last

Well I hope you all survived Friday the 13th without anything too disasterous happening! I had a quiet day making sure I didn't do anything to tempt bad luck and instead inked up some of my new stamps and made a card for a few spring themed challenges. I've gone for a one layer card for a change and used a Penny Black stamp 'Potted Flowers' which I coloured with my usual Promarkers, with chalks for the background and I added a Wink of Stella - a gift from a wonderful blogging friend - on the butterflies. I'm really not very adventurous with my colouring mediums and always end up going back to my trusty Promarkers for colouring images - not only do they work for me but I have quite a collection of colours that would like to use before they start drying out (I've already had to throw a few away) !

I'm entering this in the following challenges ~

As You Like It 'favourite colouring medium and why'

Time Out 'spring + optional twist one layer'

Allsorts 'spring flowers or showers'

Love To Scrap 'April showers bring May flowers'

Words 2 Craft By 'the promise of April'

That's it from me for today, I'm off to enjoy the rest of this warm sunny day and check out all the plants and flowers that are beginning to wake up after the loooong winter. Thanks for popping by and I hope you enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Peaceful Winter

What a week this is turning out to be.... aching back, neck and hands and a laptop that is literally only just surviving and is even held together with tape as the Glossy Accents didn't manage to do the repair job! Every time I switch it on I'm just keeping those aching fingers crossed that it'll start up and live a bit longer until my new one arrives next week. Then I'll have Windows 10 to get used and oh what fun I can imagine that will be!

But I have got a card to show you today that I made for a couple of challenges and also to try out one of my new Penny Black stamps called 'Peaceful Winter' which has several stamps in the set. I've gone for a very CAS design using one of the stamps inked with black and green Memento inks and then clear embossed. Up to this stage things were going okay, I'd trimmed and matted the image onto some green cardstock and stuck it to a card blank and then I decided to stamp the sentiment - from the Penny Black 'Sweetest Moments' set - straight onto the card. The black ink isn't so juicy (must buy another when I go shopping) so I was reinking the sentiment and even though I was using my (brand new) TH stamping platform I managed to move the card slightly on the third inking... OOPS!  Hubby said it looks as though it is a shadow and is okay and IRL it actually does look like that but the photo shows all and I think I may try to salvage things and stamp (more carefully) a new sentiment to cut out and cover this one.

I made this for the following challenges

Allsorts 'be there or be square'

Penny Black and More 'black and white plus one'

Thanks for popping by today and for taking the time to leave a comment. I'll be round to visit you all as soon as I can but will have too take things slowly as I'm having to carefully nurse this old laptop of mine through it's last few days and hopefully until my new one arrives !!

Uniko Stripes and Gerberas

I'm here today with a card I made for the Uniko challenge which has a colour theme with the optional twist of easter, but as easter has now passed us by I've just gone for the colours. I've used the Uniko 'Background Blocks Horizontal Stripes' inked with Memento Dewdrop inks and Uniko 'Pure Florals Gerbera' coloured with pencils and cut with the matching die (I'm so glad I treated myself to that) and to finish I added some Card Candi coloured with a Promarker. I decided against adding a sentiment at this stage and will add one depending on the occasion when I come to send it.

Edited to add:

A very dear blogging friend has brought to my notice that this may not have been the best of photos (taking photos of cards is not one of my strong points) so I'm adding another brighter one

I also managed to incorporate all of the colours in the palette in my card

I've got a few more fabulous uninked Uniko stamps and stencils to have a play with so will have more to show you over the next or so. Thanks for popping by today and for the taking the time to leave a comment and I hope you all have a great weekend.

Spring Snippets

Morning everyone, hope you've all had a great bank holiday weekend. We've not had any snow but it is very miserable and wet today so more indoors playtime again.

I'm hopping over to see the Playmates with this card for Pixie's Snippets Playground challenge which was made entirely from snippets. The stamp is Penny Black 'Tulip Queue' and is actually larger than you see here but the piece of card I stamped on was a small square snippet. I coloured with my usual Promarkers and tied a leftover piece of ribbon around it. The piece of gingham paper was another snippet as was the kraft card I used to die-cut the butterfly. Just a couple of gems and some pearls and job done as I decided to leave it without a sentiment so I'll be able to use it for any occasion.

and here's the stamp full size

I'm also entering this in

Passion for Promarkers challenge 'gorgeous gingham and perfect plaids'

CAS-ual Fridays challenge 'spring fever'

Well that's it from me for today, I'm off to see what other goodies the online shops can tempt me to buy - well with miserable weather like this we have to cheer ourselves up somehow and I've already eaten my choccie eggs! Thanks for popping by and I hope you have a fun day, whatever you may be getting up to.

Easter and Christmas

Happy easter to you all and I hope you're enjoying the long weekend. It's raining here but at least we've not had more snow like some areas have and as it means that I won't be able to get out in the garden I shall have to have a crafty play instead.

Here's a quick 6x4 inch easter card I've made with snippets of LOTV paper, a Sylvia Zet topper, flowers, gems and a sentiment left over from a decoupage sheet.

I made this for

Let's Craft and Create challenge 'anything goes + option easter'

Country View challenge 'postcard 6x4 inch size'

Next up is my first christmas card of the year which I made for March Rudolph Days challenge. I used my new Penny Black stamp 'Santa's Visit' along with the Misti. My first attempt was to use TH distress markers to colour the stamp a bit at a time but I gave up part way through as I was getting it all wrong! So next attempt was to lightly stamp the whole image with Memento London Fog and then I found it much easier to add the colour with the distress markers, although I'm still not happy with the way the sky turned out. I matted the image onto some metallic card and then onto a hammered effect card base, before finally adding some Stickles.

Don't you just love holidays and the emails you get tempting you to buy with the promise of a discount...... and yes I have already given in and placed orders for some new Uniko and MFT goodies! So now I'd better get off and have a play with some more of my NBUS stamps - while scoffing on an easter egg or two! Thanks for popping by and I hope you have a great weekend.

Butterfly Snippets

Good morning to you all on this cold and frosty Sunday. I know it's a great excuse to stay inside and do a bit of crafting but honestly I would love spring to come out of hiding, wouldn't you?

But less of the complaining and onto my card. Using a snippet of white card I cut a Penny Black Glamorous die and I left the die in place while I coloured it with some Flexmarkers that were to hand - the stems are very fragile and the flower head easily breaks off, which I found out with my first attempt. Then I stamped a Clearly Besotted sentiment onto a snippet of cream card and stuck it all together before finally adding my butterfly. A very quick and CAS card and another NBUS item (PB die) used.

Edited for my bad grammar and typing: what I actually meant to say was that after I'd die cut the flower I took the die off and instead of pushing the flower out from the card negative I left it in place whilst I coloured it to keep it a bit more secure. Thinking about it now I could have tried sticking it onto a post-it pad or low tack tape to keep it secure at the fragile point where the stem and petals meet.

I made this for

Pixie's Snippets Playground challenge 'use your snippets'

Butterfly challenge 'spin the wheel with the letter L' I managed lavender, lemon, layers, letters

Now I'm off to find Mojo and maybe get my inspiration and creative jusices flowing for a few more challenges. Take care and keep warm (or cold) depending on whereabouts in Blogland you are and thanks for popping by today.

New Home

Hey the sun is shining here today so does that mean spring is finally coming out of hiding? This has been the longest winter for me starting last September when Hubby was rushed into hospital for emergency surgery and with everything else that's happened since I don't seem to have got anything organised! I was quite optimistic when I posted my last card that I was getting on top of things and even got some stamping and colouring done.... but then those dreaded germs jumped out and caught me unawares.  Fingers and toes and everything else crossed I think I've finally shaken them off and can start again!

Anyway enough of my waffling on - here's a card I made using snippets of card and a Poppystamps die 'Country House' and 'Country House roof and background'. I cut the background from snippets of coloured card and inlaid them into a piece of white card, then added the other pieces on top before layering onto green card and the card blank. I used chalks to give a bit of colour to the sky and ground but (as usual) it doesn't show up on the photo. After searching through all my stamps I've only just realised that I've got no new home sentiments so that'll have to be added when I've been on a shopping trip!

I've made this for the following challenges

Pixie's Snippets Playground challenge 'use your snippets'

Time Out challenge 'bold'

Poppy challenge 'clean and simple'

Edited: after a nudge from Darnell I'm also entering this in

Happy Little Stampers CAS challenge 'home'

Thanks for popping by today and I'll be around to catch up with you all over the next few days.

Uniko Birthday

Well after thinking we may have got away with just a few snow flurries that didn't settle we woke up to a thick blanket of snow this morning. I've now got Hubby trying to clear off and get the car started so we can go and check on my Dad's house and turn his heating up a bit higher.

If you hadn't already heard, Uniko are celebrating and are having a 6th Birthday Linky Party over on their blog. I've made a card using Uniko stamps from 'Big and Bold Wish' and 'Simply Said Birthday' along with Uniko 'Scattered Polka Dots' stencil.

I followed the sketch over at CAS Colours and sketches

and I'm also joining the challenge at Addicted to Stamps and More

I hope you're all keeping fit and well, and for those of you in the cold and snow I hope you're managing to snug and warm as well. Thanks for popping by today.

Snippets and B's

Hello to you all on this very cold but sunny day. I'm planning on having a restful weekend with the heating switched up and a bit of crafting to amuse myself.

I've made a card using snippets of ribbon, card and paper and the last three of my larger flowers. I started with the flowers and the snippet of ribbon - it was a case of use them or bin them - then I found the piece of green spotty paper and I'd already cut my new TH background die from a snippet of card when I first got it to see what it looked like, and after a tiny bit of cutting to size and sticking in place I'd got the start of the card. Next up was trying different nesting dies (they'd already been cut from snippets and kept in a box for when they were needed) and I settled on a TH stitched oval and also a Cheery Lyn butterfly with a couple of gems added. So after stamping the Clearly besotted sentiment I stuck the last two bits in place to finish the card. I know it was a very back to front way of doing things but it's just the way things happen sometimes!

I'm heading over to the following challenges with this

Pixie's Snippets Playground challenge 'use your snippets'

Allsorts challenge 'I spy something beginning with B'  Blooms, Bow, Butterfly

Let's Craft and Create challenge 'anything goes + option mother's day/mother'

Thanks for popping by today and I hope you enjoy the rest of your weekend.
